Here is a circa 1900 highly decorative and collectible chair by the renowned Carlo Bugatti (Italian, Milan 1855–1940 Molsheim.)
Excerpt from The Metropolitan Museum of Art article:
“Strikingly original, Carlo Bugatti’s furniture combines the picturesque asymmetry of Art Nouveau with the exoticism of Moorish and Japanese influences. Yet, there is nothing derivative in Bugatti’s work; rather, it is pure fantasy, drawing inspiration from the Orientalist art movement of the late nineteenth century, a fact underscored by the name of his business in Milan: C. Bugatti & C., Fabbrica Mobili Artistici Fantasia.”
This wonderful Carlo Bugatti piece retains its pewter inlays, embossed and punched copper, and bone applications; vellum-covered seat and back and large braided silk fringes.
Condition: we see repairs to the old silk fringe. The vellum is in great condition. No missing pewter inlays nor bone or embossed copper applications.
Seat 16″ wide x 16″ deep x 16 1/2″ seat height; overall height 50″.
